A Two day tour of approx. 160 miles (260km).

Leave Ross Lake House, Oughterard and continue through the rugged countryside of Connemara, dominated by the craggy peaks of the Twelve Bens, via Maam Cross and Recess into the beautifully located town of Clifden - the capital of Connemara. When driving around the roads in Connemara you are likely to encounter many sheep grazing happily by the side of the road, but watch out for the animal most associated with Connemara - the famous Connemara Pony.

From Clifden drive to Letterfrack and on to Leenane (Sky Road), at the head of picturesque Kilary Harbour. Along the way you'll see the magnificent Kylemore Abbey. Having left Leenane, turn off the main road for Louisburgh and Westport, passing Doo Lough and the lofty Croagh Patrick. The town of Westport was designed by James Wyatt - an architect of the Georgian period. Castlebar, principal town of County Mayo, is the next on your route - offering you a charming oldworld atmosphere. Of particular note is the pleasant tree-lined Mall. Overnight in Jennings Hotel, Castlebar.

The following day continue on to Galway City via Ballintubber, with its impressive Abbey, Ballinrobe and Headford. Visit Galway City and absorb the many Celtic and Spanish influences that give the city it's character. Take an excursion to one or all of the three Aran Islands and hear Irish (Gaelic) spoken as a first language. Visit the islands many ancient monuments and forts before returning to Galway and Ross Lake House.
