DAY ELEVEN: Glaslough-Dublin

On the final day of your tour drive through Monaghan town, Castleblaney, Carrickmacross and Ardee to Slane in County Meath. This pleasant village is one of the loveliest parts of the beautiful Boyne Valley. A mile to the north is the Hill of Slane, which affords magnificent views of the Boyne Valley from Trim to Drogheda. Along the north bank of the river Boyne, a few miles to the east is the remarkable pre-Christian cemetery Brugh na Boinne. It is a series of neolithic tumuli of which Newgrange is the biggest. Newgrange has a passageway leading to a central chamber with side recesses for burials. During the winter solstice the rays of the sun reach the central chamber. Drive on through Slane to Navan, where you will see the Hill of Tara, home of the ancient High Kings of Ireland. Complete your tour of the Boyne Valley in Trim, rich in historical buildings and ancient monuments. The final leg of your journey brings you back to Dublin via Clonee, Blanchardstown and the Phoenix Park, one of the largest city parks in the world.
