races and the Folk festival in July revive the hullabaloo of
the olden days. But Springfort Hall has seen it all and retains
a dignified distance amidst its landscaped gardens just north
of the town. Although the house is Georgian, the estate goes
back to the Norman invasion of Ireland of 1169 and, for centuries,
remained the property of the landed gentry. This mellow, Grade
A listed house echoes its noble past in dimension and design.
And, under its present ownership of the Walsh Family, its tradition
of refined hospitality continues with a professional touch and
the added embellishments of the present day to ensure a luxurious
and carefree stay.
The Walsh's other contribution,
entirely in keeping with the property's antecedents, is the excellent
cuisine; the a la carte menus are a delight and draw from an
abundance of wholesome local produce. A most relaxing and indulgent
